I used to tell the kids that Santa Claus only came to Texas, and that's why we had to spend all those hours driving to the farm every Christmas. This year I set up a hidden camera and caught him in the act of arriving. We had a great Christmas--hope you did too.
Happy 2012.

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
The tree is up, the stockings are hung, the electric train is set up and the smell of baking makes it exciting to come in from outside. Now, as 2000 years ago, we anxiously await the arrival of a special little boy to share it with. Wishing you peace and joy this Christmas.

Uncle Warren
Yesterday I attended the funeral for our uncle Warren Alexander. It was a full military funeral with flag-draped coffin, rifle salute and the playing of Taps on a crisp sunny day at the beautiful Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. The honor guard folded the flag and presented it to Scott, and the firing detail gave him the brass from 3 of the rounds fired saying they signified Duty, Honor and Country. I don't think the ceremony could have been any nicer.
I read recently that our World War II veterans are dying at the rate of one every 2 minutes. At 90-plus years of age these men and women have lived rich full lives and it probably isn't right to grieve their passing, but rather to feel honored to have them as parents, relatives and friends. I couldn't be more proud of Dad, Uncle Warren, Uncle Bill and Aunt Mary, and Uncle Bud. I think they really were The Greatest Generation and our families and our nation will be diminished if we don't work hard to maintain their memories and their values.
